Food & Drink

Manhattan Cocktail

Photobucket

These are prefect drinks for Fall and Winter. I know that its still Summer but I can't wait for Fall I love sweaters and bourbon. So I looked this up on dinkmixers.com and here is the recipe they had.

3/4 oz sweet vermouth
2 1/2 oz bourbon whiskey
1 dash Angostura® bitters
1 maraschino cherry
1 twist orange peel

Combine the vermouth, bourbon whiskey, and bitters with 2 - 3 ice cubes in a mixing glass. Stir gently, don't bruise the spirits and cloud the drink. Place the cherry in a chilled cocktail glass and strain the whiskey mixture over the cherry. Rub the cut edge of the orange peel over the rim of the glass and twist it over the drink to release the oils but don't drop it in.

VARIATION: No bitters. Substitute a twist of lime for the cherry and orange. Hold the lime twist in a lighted match over the drink and then drop it in. The heat really zips up the lime flavor.

I use to listen to Kings of Leon a good 4 years ago and I really enjoyed them. For some reason when I started to hear them on the radio I decided I was too good for them.......yes I was being a music snob. So today I was sitting at work and I had listen to all my music like 5 times over and I turn on the radio. Well Kings of Leon Sex on Fire was playing and I had heard it before but for some reason this time it really hooked me. There I was wanting more and all I had was the old album.....so I broke down and just purchased it off itunes and to tell you the truth I'm not disappointed. And I really like the cd cover. I like that Kings of Leon.....will never be a snob to them again.

My New Toy

So my old phone sucked I had to sit outside of my apartment to talk on it. If my friends tried to call me it would say disconnect.........so it was totally lame. SO my final decision when it came to picking out my cell phone I went with the new iphone 3G s. :D It is totally worth the money I haven't stopped playing with it. It's the love of my life......for now.

Bride to Be, Tea Party!

This last Saturday (June 27th, 2009) was my best friend's Bridal Shower. Karen and I had a great time planning and and coming up with ideas for all the decorations. The theme was Bride to Be, Tea Party with lots of bright pretty colors........just like Lisa.......loud and happy. Unfortunately Lisa's soon to be mother in-law(Kathy) was unable to attend. I asked my friend Scott Riener to take some professional photos of the party and the guests, so she can send some photos to Kathy. Here are some of the beautiful pictures Scott took.

Baking Time......

I decided it was time to try out my tiny oven. I made Red Velvet Cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. It was fun, I made a mess in my kitchen, and my final product was a tasty treat.

My Apartment

A month after I moved back home I got a one bedroom apartment in the basement of an old house. The biggest draw to the apartment for me was the built in shelves, a fire place, and throughout the apartment are the original old sinks, handles, and fixtures. Even though it is a basement apartment the kitchen and bedroom get tons of nature light. But anyway I thought I would post some pictures of what it looks like now ( it needs A LOT of decorating to be done to it) and will continue to post pictures of the changes I make to the interior design of the apartment.

This picture is standing from the front door looking in to the kitchen. I want to get more stuff on my shelves.

New Style

I have made some changes in my life since I started this blog (and partly why I haven't had any posts) so I thought I would make some changes to my blog page too. I moved back to Idaho, I got an apartment, and a new job. I was very sad to leave Portland but it had to be done. So more posts to come.

Epic Failure

I had an assignment in one of my graphic design classes that they wanted us to make a pop up or pop out card. Well I had this bright idea that I was going to make it out of cardboard and it was going to be awesome. So I worked on it, I was so excited and when I glued on the last piece, I held it up and I realized IT SUCKED. It looked like a 5 year old made it. I decided that it was crazy to believe that any cool design could come from cardboard. Then I saw this and realized I am an epic failure when it comes to cardboard.

Flight of the Conchords

I know their first album has been out for a while now but I was so impressed with the artwork for the album I had to find out who was the creator. With a little research I found out that Tyler Stout did the amazing illustrations. He did a beautiful job and I love it!

Mutual Gig Poster

Mutual is a band composed of one man, Joe Morgan. He recently completed his first album and asked me to do the cover art for it and I happily accepted. Joe has been doing an amazing job of getting out there and playing for people in Seattle, Washington; now he is working his way down the west coast and will be playing in Portland. Mutual can be seen at the Alberta Street Pub, January 24th at 7pm. Joe is really great about letting me use my own ideas for his cd cover and his gig posters. He was very happy with my latest.

Check out Mutual at www.myspace.com/mutualtunes.

Hello...

I started this blog because I want to be able to share my thoughts about graphic design. I am enthusiastic about starting a career in design and learning as much as I can. I’m inspired by the world around me as well as all other artists and plan on posting all my finds. I hope you enjoy.
